The Downtown Grimsby BIA Board of Management is announcing a leadership transition within its Executive Committee as Chair Simon, owner of Teddy’s in Grimsby, prepares to step away from the Board of Management.

As part of this transition, current Vice Chair Mark Wood, owner of The Forty Public House, will step into the role of Interim Chair to support continuity while the Board completes its internal governance process.

Daniel Vandersteen, owner of The Dutch Shop, will continue as Treasurer, and Christine Kempf, owner of Mrs. Greenway, will continue as Secretary.

The transition will help ensure continued stability and continuity for the organization as the BIA advances initiatives focused on economic development, business support, events, placemaking, and downtown revitalization.

“Downtown Grimsby has experienced tremendous momentum over the past several years, and that progress has been driven by a committed Board working collaboratively on behalf of the business community,” said Mark Wood. “On behalf of the organization, I want to thank Simon for his leadership, dedication, and many contributions to the downtown.”

During this term, the Downtown Grimsby BIA has continued to expand community events and programming, strengthen partnerships across the municipality, advocate for downtown businesses, and support long-term revitalization efforts throughout the downtown core.

The Board emphasized that the transition reflects the organization’s ongoing commitment to good governance and ensuring the BIA remains focused on its mandate of supporting local businesses and enhancing the vibrancy of downtown Grimsby.

“While leadership roles may evolve, the mission of the organization remains the same,” added Wood. “Our Board remains focused on supporting our members, delivering meaningful programming, and continuing to build a downtown that is vibrant, resilient, and welcoming for businesses, residents, and visitors.”

Downtown Grimsby BIA Announces Board Leadership Transition

Downtown Grimsby is pleased to announce the return of the 

, a free, family-friendly live music experience taking place Thursday evenings throughout June from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Coronation Park, 77 Main St W. Now entering its third year, the popular concert series has become a summer tradition in the community, bringing residents and visitors together to enjoy live music in the downtown core. Featuring a lineup of talented performers including Hamilton All Star Jazz, Shari Vandermolen, The Beelays, and Groove Miller, Music on the Forty promises a month full of music and community.  

The series was created by longtime Grimsby resident Allan Gaumond, who recognized the opportunity to turn the park stage into a lively hub for music and community connection. 

“It’s been amazing to watch this grow into an event people look forward to every year,” said Allan Gaumond, founder of the Music on the Forty Concert Series. “We’re excited to welcome everyone back this season and hope to see people out enjoying the great lineup of performers and spending time in the community each week.”  

Bring a lawn chair or blanket, along with snacks and bug spray, and settle in for a night of great music. While in the area for the concerts, visitors are encouraged to take advantage of everything downtown has to offer, including local restaurants and cafés, unique shops, and convenient spots for errands or services. Arriving early offers the chance to explore the Grimsby Farmers’ Market, which runs every Thursday from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Main Street East, featuring fresh produce, local goods, and artisan products. 

“We’re excited to have Music on the Forty back for its third year,” said Mark Wood, Board Member of Downtown Grimsby. “While you’re here for the concerts, we hope you take some time to check out the local businesses that help make Downtown Grimsby such a great place to spend an evening.” 

All performances are weather permitting. In the event of inclement weather, updates will be shared 30 to 60 minutes prior to showtime on social media. Rained-out performances will not be rescheduled. Admission is free, and parking is available nearby. This year’s lineup features four performances with a mix of genres and local talent. 

 has brought classic and contemporary big-band jazz, featuring the music of Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Ella Fitzgerald and others, to audiences throughout Canada, the United States, and Europe for over 40 years. The evening will feature performances by the Rising Stars and All Star Jazz Bands.	 

 is an award-winning performer and Niagara-based jazz, and blues vocalist who has been entertaining audiences for years. She brings timeless music to life with warmth, elegance, and effortless charm. Known for her rich tone and engaging stage presence, she blends beloved jazz standards, soulful ballads, and lively blues tunes into performances that feel both nostalgic and refreshingly alive. She’s sat in with jazz legends in New Orleans at the Irvin Mayfield Jazz playhouse and released her debut album “Quarter to Nine”(2015) which can be found on most streaming platforms. 

Shari will be joined by David Brideau (on guitar), Clark Johnston (on bass), Cory Snider (on drums) and Fraser Hutchinson (on trumpet) for a night of Traditional Jazz, Vintage blues and a dash of jazzified contemporary tunes. 

, a female-fronted funk-rock fusion sensation in Hamilton, Ontario, deliver a soulful and electrifying musical experience. With spontaneous improvisation and a captivatingly quirky style, they defy expectations, pushing boundaries with original lyrics and funky grooves. The Beelays create an immersive, uplifting, and contagious energy that transcends the stage. 

 is a groove-based unit performing for the sole purpose of getting great musicians together and getting their audience onto the dance floor! To accomplish this, they draw from a mix of Blues, Funk, R+B, Hip Hop, Soul and Jazz grooves that keep the audience wondering what is next but definitely wanting more!

Free Outdoor Concert Series Returns to Downtown Grimsby This June

   — Downtown Grimsby is proud to announce the return of the Canadian Flag Program, with more than 40 Canadian flags being displayed at participating businesses throughout the downtown core this May. Following a successful launch in 2025, the initiative is returning for a second year to continue celebrating community pride and creating a vibrant, unified streetscape heading into the summer season. 								 

The program is funded by Downtown Grimsby, with support from Canadian Tire (44 Livingston Ave., Grimsby), which generously donated several flags and provided the remainder at a significant discount. Downtown Grimsby extends its appreciation to Canadian Tire for supporting the initiative and helping bring a display of Canadian pride to downtown.					 

“We’re happy to bring the Canadian flags back again this year,” said Mark Wood, Board Member of Downtown Grimsby. “They add a lot to the look of downtown, and we hope to see the flag program continue to grow in the future.”	 

The flags were installed in late May and will be displayed at businesses across Downtown Grimsby until after Remembrance Day.

The Downtown Grimsby Flag Program is part of ongoing efforts to enhance the downtown experience, encourage community engagement, and celebrate Canadian pride throughout the core. 	 

While downtown viewing the flags, visitors are encouraged to explore local shops, support small businesses, shop Canadian-made products, and share photos on social media by tagging @DowntownGrimsby.												 

Downtown Grimsby is the Business Improvement Area (BIA) representing businesses within the downtown area The organization works to support local businesses and create a vibrant, welcoming destination through events, beautification initiatives, marketing, and community partnerships.

Major Refrigeration Peach King Centre

This historic manor was built by United Empire Loyalist and entrepreneur Colonel Robert Nelles between 1788 and 1798 at The Forty (now Grimsby). Visitors can still see original architectural details and artifacts, and the surrounding grounds are recognized as a War of 1812 battleground. The manor remained in the Nelles family for four generations until it was purchased by the Coutts in 1971. Today, the manor provides guided tours and serves as a venue for a wide range of events and programs.
