Thanks to the generous support of Grimsby Canadian Tire and Beamsville Home Hardware, more than 60 Canadian flags have been proudly installed throughout Downtown Grimsby and Downtown Bench Beamsville as part of the new Canadian Flag Program. This cross-community initiative, launched in late spring 2025, and installed last week, brings a vibrant display of national pride just in time for Canada Day on July 1st. The flags will remain on display through Remembrance Day, and the program is set to return annually to enhance the charm of each downtown. 

Developed through a partnership between the two Business Improvement Areas, the program is part of ongoing beautification efforts aimed at fostering local pride and creating welcoming streetscapes for residents and visitors alike.

“We’re thrilled to be partnering with our neighbours in Downtown Bench Beamsville to bring this display of Canadian pride to two Niagara communities,” said Simon Duong, Chair of Downtown Grimsby. “This initiative is our way of giving back to local businesses and adding something special for the whole community to enjoy.” 

This initiative would not have been possible without the generosity and support of our local sponsors. A heartfelt thank you goes out to Grimsby Canadian Tire (44 Livingston Ave, Grimsby) and Beamsville Home Hardware (4992 King St, Beamsville).

Located less than 15 minutes apart, Downtown Grimsby and Downtown Bench Beamsville make the perfect pair for a day trip. We invite residents, visitors, and local businesses to celebrate this shared display of unity and pride as we approach Canada Day and beyond. What is your name and what business do you run? 

"We’re Dr. Joe Paolasini and Dr. Alana Paolasini, and together with my wife, Carey, we run Dr. Joe & Associates Family and Cosmetic Dentistry." 

How Did You Get Started & What Inspired You to Open a Shop in Downtown Grimsby? 

"I (Dr. Joe) was fortunate to grow up here in Grimsby, attending both St. Joseph’s and GSS. After graduating from Western University in 1981, I knew I wanted to come back home to start my dental practice and raise a family. Downtown Grimsby has always felt like the heart of our community; warm, welcoming, and full of life. It’s been the perfect place for us to grow our practice over the years." 

"There is! When I first started practicing, many of my younger patients had a tough time pronouncing “Paolasini”. They simply started calling me “Dr. Joe.” It stuck, and it’s been part of our identity ever since." 

"What we truly love is helping people. Not just with their dental needs, but by making their entire experience as smooth and stress-free as possible. Being able to make someone feel comfortable and cared for means the world to us." 

What is one product or service you are especially proud of? 

“We take great pride in providing comprehensive, conservative cosmetic dentistry. It’s about helping our patients feel confident in their smiles while always prioritizing their long-term dental health.” 

What’s one thing people might not know about your business? 

“We’re always learning and growing. Between the two of us, we’ve completed over 1,000 hours of continuing education to ensure we’re offering the most current, evidence-based treatments. Staying at the forefront of dentistry is something we’re truly passionate about.” 

“Grimsby is home. It’s where we’ve grown up, raised our family, built our practice, and shared so many memories. This community has shaped us, and it’s an honour to serve the people here every day.” 

What impact do you hope your business has on the community? 

"Our hope is to be more than just a dental office. We want to be a positive, lasting part of our patients’ lives and the community. Whether it’s through care, education, or simply offering a smile, we aim to contribute to a healthier, happier Grimsby."

"I'm Raj, and I run Indian Hut, an Indian restaurant in Downtown Grimsby" 

"I was inspired by the love of Indian cuisine and the vibrant community of Grimsby, I wanted to bring authentic Indian flavors to the local residents and visitors. Downtown Grimsby's bustling atmosphere seemed like the perfect spot." 

"Indian Hut was chosen to reflect the warmth and hospitality of Indian culture. The logo represents the blend of traditional Indian elements with a modern twist, symbolizing our connection to Grimsby" 

"I'm especially proud of our weekend specials where we feature traditional Indian festivals' special dishes. It helps customers experience Indian culture more deeply" 

What's one thing people might not know about your business? 

"One thing people might not know is that we source many of our spices directly from India to ensure authenticity of flavors" 

"I love introducing people to the rich flavors and diversity of Indian cuisine. Seeing customers enjoy our dishes and learning about Indian culture brings me joy"

What was your first job ever and how did it lead you to your business today? 

"My first job was in a restaurant back in India, learning about food and hospitality. It sparked my passion for the culinary world and led me to open Indian Hut in Grimsby"
